Ice Box Canyon Trailhead

Ice Box Canyon, Las Vegas, NV 89161, USA

The Ice Box Canyon Trail is a 2.6-mile out-and-back hike located in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, near Las Vegas. The trail is rated as moderate due to some rocky terrain and light scrambling, especially toward the end as you approach the canyon’s deeper sections. It begins with a relatively flat, open desert section that leads to the mouth of the canyon, offering impressive views of the towering red and grey sandstone cliffs. As you enter the canyon, the environment becomes cooler and more shaded, providing a stark contrast to the exposed desert outside. The path follows a creek bed that, depending on the season, may be dry or flowing with water. During wetter months or after rain, seasonal waterfalls can be found near the end of the trail, adding to the hike’s appeal. The rocky terrain and occasional boulder-hopping make for a fun, adventurous experience, but proper footwear is recommended for stability. This trail is popular for its natural beauty and refreshing atmosphere, making it a great spot for those looking to enjoy a mix of desert and canyon environments in one hike.
