The Moenkopi Loop is a 2-mile, relatively easy trail located near the Visitor Center at Red Rock Canyon. The hike is family-friendly and suitable for beginners, with minimal elevation gain (about 200 feet). The trail follows a well-marked path composed of packed dirt and some rocky sections, making it accessible for most hikers.
As you walk along the loop, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Calico Hills and the La Madre Mountains. The trail also offers a fascinating glimpse into the area’s geological history, with fossilized marine life, such as seashells, visible in the Moenkopi sandstone formations—remnants from when the area was covered by a shallow sea millions of years ago.
The hike features a variety of desert flora, including yucca, creosote, and various cacti, making it a great spot for observing local plant life. Interpretive signs along the way provide additional information about the geology, flora, and fauna, enhancing the educational aspect of the trail.
